JIBS 2008 Decade Award Winner

The Selection Committee for the JIBS Decade Award is pleased to announce that the article "Location and the Multinational Enterprise: A Neglected Factor?" by John H. Dunning has been selected as the winner of the 2008 JIBS Decade Award.   
 
The award, sponsored by Palgrave Macmillan, is designed to recognize the most influential paper published in the Journal of International Business Studies ten years before the annual AIB conference.  In order to be considered for the JIBS Decade Award, an article must be one of the five most cited articles published in JIBS that year.
 
The Selection Committee examined total citations, total number of journals citing the paper, and total number of leading journals (excluding JIBS) citing the paper to determine the top five most cited articles. The statistics were gathered by Deanna Johnston, JIBS Editorial Assistant. The Selection Committee then read and discussed the top five nominees and selected the winning article.
 
This year's Selection Committee members were Thomas Murtha (chair, selected by the JIBS Editor-in-Chief), the current AIB Program Chair John Cantwell, and the previous AIB Program Chair Oded Shenkar. JIBS Editor-in-Chief Lorraine Eden was an ex officio committee member.
 
A special "JIBS Decade Award" session where Professor Dunning will be honored is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, July 3, 2008, at the AIB annual conference. Participating in the session will be John Dunning and the members of the JIBS Decade Award Selection Committee. A reception honoring Professor Dunning will follow. This year, we plan to introduce an innovation, a short videotape of the honoree discussing his/her paper.  This video will later be freely downloadable from the JIBS and AIB websites.
 
The award winning article, together with Professor Dunning's Commentary, will be published in the first issue of the 2009 Journal of International Business Studies, the 40th anniversary edition of the Journal.
