MS International Business Certificate

Overview

The increasing globalization of the contemporary business environment puts firms under competitive pressure to change and adapt to new technologies and markets. To gain global reach, firms seek to hire students who are culture-sensitive and internationally knowledgeable. The International Business Certificate provides the knowledge base and international exposure that students need to meet these modern business challenges.

International Business Certificate Requirement

The International Business Certificate will be awarded to Mays MS students who meet the following academic requirements in the sequence given below.

  1. Successfully complete the prerequisite “International Management” course (IBUS 679/ MGMT 679) offered each spring semester at Mays Business School.
  2. Participate in a semester-long (summer, fall or spring) overseas study program identified by Mays Business School and take at least four (12 credit hours) international business courses.

Two options are available for Mays MS students to fulfill requirement#2 above.

Option 1: Summer session between the first and second year of the MS Program.

Mays MS students must participate in the five-week (normally between mid May – third week of June), six credit hour, “Strategies for Europe” program conducted by EDHEC Business School, our exchange partner institution in France. The first 3-credit hour international business course (two-week segment) will focus on European Culture and Environment and will be conducted at EDHEC’s Nice Campus. The second 3-credit hour course (two-week segment) will focus on Managing Operations in Europe and will be conducted at EDHEC’s Lille Campus. Students will have a week break between the two segments to move from Southern to Northern France and do some travel within Europe.  In addition, students will be required to participate in the six-week (normally between the fourth week of June through the first week of August) “International Summer University” program conducted by Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Denmark, another partner institution of Mays Business School. Mays MS students will enroll in two courses from a list of some six international business courses offered by CBS each summer.

Option 2: Fall or Spring (second year) semesters of MS Program.

Mays MS students could spend the entire fall or spring semesters (semester dates vary with partner institution) with any one of our 17 exchange partner institutions in Europe, Mexico, or Asia.  Mays MS students will enroll in four international business courses and receive credit for the 12 hours of course work required for the international business certificate program.  Visit the STUDY ABROAD section of this website and view the Mays Grad REEP Programs Grid and the Grad Summer Study Abroad Grid for more information about our partner institutions and courses offered.
