MBA International Business Certificate

Overview

The increasing globalization of the contemporary business environment is marked by succession of companies, which find themselves under competitive pressure to change and adapt to new technologies and markets.  Corporate transformations, from strategic business aspects to technology and personnel management, are a must in the real business world.  Companies need MBAs who are culture sensitive, tuned to global developments and ethics.  The International Business Certificate provides you with the knowledge base and international exposure that is needed to meet these modern business challenges.

International Business Certificate Requirement

The International Business Certificate will be awarded to Mays Business School's MBA students that meet the following academic requirements.

  1. Participate in a semester-long (summer or spring) overseas study program identified by Mays Business School and take at least four (12 credit hours) of international business courses.
  2. Successfully complete the "International Business" course offered in Term 4 of the MBA program.

Two options are available for Mays MBA students to fulfill the requirements for the International Business Certificate.

Option 1: Summer session between the first and second year of the MBA Program.

Mays MBA students must participate in the five-week, six credit hour, "Strategies for Europe" program conducted by EDHEC Business School, our exchange partner institution in France.  The first 3-credit hour international business course (two-week segment) will focus on European Culture and Environment and will be conducted at EDHEC's Nice Campus. The second 3-credit hour course (two-week segment) will focus on Managing Operations in Europe and will be conducted at EDHEC's Lille Campus. Students will have a week break between the two segments to move from Southern to Northern France and do some travel within Europe.  In addition, students will be required to participate in the six-week, six credit hour, "International Summer University" exchange program conducted by Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Denmark, another partner institution of Mays Business School.  Mays MBA students will enroll in two courses from a list of some six international business courses offered by CBS each summer.

Option 2: Spring semester of second year of the MBA Program.

Mays MBA students could spend the entire spring semester (semester dates vary with partner institution) with any one of our 17 exchange partner institutions in Europe, Mexico, or Asia.  Mays MBA students will enroll in four international business courses and receive credit for the 12 hours of course work required for the International Business Certificate program.
