Mays Undergraduate Programs

Introduction to Overseas Study Opportunites for Undergraduate Business Majors: Making a decision to study abroad will be an enriching life experience that you will always remember! This experience will benefit you in many ways, both personally and professionally.  Countries, as well as companies, value employees with global experience and knowledge of other cultures.  Think of it this way ... business has been global in the PAST, is global TODAY, and will continue to be global TOMORROW.

Benefits:  When you participate in one of our programs, you will gain both academic and cultural experience that will change your preception of the United States, the world and the way business is conducted globally.

Planning Ahead:  If you plan for your study abroad experience early (sophomore year), you should be able to:

  • take advantage of several college and university scholarships
  • complete the overseas study experience within the hours required for your undergraduate degree

Program types:  Mays Business School sponsors two types of overseas study abroad opportunities

1.  Reciprocal Educational Exchange Programs (REEP) - (Semester or Academic Year)  These programs offer the opportunity for complete "immersion" into a partner country's academic environment and culture.  You will attend classes with the students from that country and interact closely with them.  You remain officially enrolled at TAMU for 12 credit hours of course work, pay tuition and fees to TAMU and will be exempt from paying tuition and fees to the overseas institution.  Most REEP partners offer business courses in English.  Information on each program is found in the Mays UG REEP Programs Grid.

STEPS TO APPLY:  Start early to plan your program, check for application deadlines and follow the steps below:

  • Review the Mays UG REEP Programs Grid.  This includes all Mays and TAMU REEP programs, and lists the country, schools, semester dates, estimated cost and other information.
  • In the grid, you will also find links to the foreign university's website where you will find information about the university, courses, housing, campus life, the country and more!
  • Meet with an Undergraduate Program Advisor in UPO (Wehner 238).  Call 862-3850 to set up an appointment to discuss overseas courses and the course selection process.
  • Download the REEP Application Check List, and follow the instructions.
  • Meet with Ms. Laurie Marshall (Wehner 215B), Mays Exchange Program Coordinator.
  • Once Ms. Marshall has nominated you to the overseas partner institution and to the TAMU REEP coordinator, review scholarship opportunities.
  • Read the Study Abroad Handbook and Study Abroad Travel Preparation Tips.

2.  Faculty-led Study Abroad Programs - (Summer & Short-term Programs)  On study abroad programs, our professors will take a select group of MAYS students to a foreign location to offer business and culture/economic environment courses.  Although you will be taking classes in a foreign location, your classmates will be AGGIES.  Mays study abroad programs are normally conducted in the summer, and will last four to 5 weeks in duration.  Short-term study abroads are also being planned.  Because of the varying duration of the programs, the credit hours gained will depend on the respective program (3-6 credit hours).  Students will register at TAMU for the courses and pay the program participation fee, the TAMU study abroad administration fee and airfare.  Ideally, you will want to participate in a study abroad during the summer after your sophomore or junior year

STEPS TO APPLY:  Start early to plan your program, check for application deadlines, and follow the steps below:

  • Review the May UG Summer Study Abroad Programs Grid.  This grid lists all summer and short-term study abroad programs sponsored by Mays for the coming year. The grid lists the country, dates, courses and program costs.
  • In the grid, you will also find links to the foreign university's website and a one page program flyer with a comprehensive overview of the program.
  • Choose your program and download the program's application on the UG Study Abroad Application page.  The application is in PDF format, and must be typed and printed.
  • Make an appointment with an Undergraduate Program Advisor (862-3850), or Dr. Linda Windle in UPO (Wehner 238).
  • After the application has been reviewed and signed by a UPO advisor, hand deliver the completed application to Ms. Charlotte Strong in CIBS (Wehner 230) by the due date.
