Types of Programs:
TAMU Reciprocal Exchange - Texas A&M University Reciprocal Exchange Programs provide students the opportunity to study and live at an overseas university for a semester or academic year. Students pay tuition and fees to A&M, but are enrolled and attend classes at the host institution alongside the domestic students of the university. This "immersion" type experience allows exchange students to become intimately familiar with the culture and academic atmosphere of the host country. As indicated, some programs are open to all majors and some are major specific.
Faculty-Led Programs - Faculty-led study abroad programs are groups of students (ranging from small groups - 10 or less - to much larger groups - upwards to 100 or more) led by a Texas A&M faculty member teaching Texas A&M courses that are specifically targeted to content related to the location of study. Classes are generally full-time (i.e., 6 hours in each summer, 12 hours in the fall/spring). Each group program is designed to provide students with a culturally relevant application to the host country while also enriching their experiences with tours of historical and cultural sights. Offered for fall, spring, summer and winter break sessions. Programs are offered in English, with the exception of the language credit programs (i.e., Spain Language - offering SPAN 221 & 222) that are more inclusive of the language of instruction.
Independent Study Programs - Transfer Credit Study Abroad Programs encompass many possible opportunities, such as applying directly to an international university, applying through a sponsoring U.S. university or institute, or applying through a program provider. Students who participate in this type of international program will receive academic credit for their completed coursework and transfer it back to Texas A&M.
