  • Students selected to this program will register for three credit hours of IBUS 489 in Spring 2012 as part of their spring semester course load.
  • The IBUS 489 course will consist of three components:
    1. some 20 hours of classroom seminar on India -- consisting of video/PowerPoint presentation and discussion -- at a time and place TBA during the fall 2011 semester in Wehner,
    2.

a two-week business and culture trip (January 3-16, 2012) to India --Bangalore, Mysore, and selected places of historical and environmental interest in Karnataka State, and on to New Delhi and Agra, with a visit to the Taj Mahal.

  • A maximum of 20 students will be selected to enroll in this program and the selection will be done by the Business Honors program office.

WHY?

  • Analysts believe that the 21st century will be Asia's century with emerging economies like China and India being the engines of global business and economic growth.
  • This may be the appropriate/best time -- or the only time -- for you to take advantage of this great program to see first hand the challenges and opportunities of conducting business in India and understand what makes India tick!
  • The IBUS 489 course will count as an international business elective for the Certificate in International Business program.
  • By participating in the India Business Environment program you will complete much of the requirements of the IBUS 489 course before you begin taking other courses for the spring 2012 semester. Furthermore, given the flat tuition fee system, the incremental cost of enrolling in this program can be minimized.

WHEN?

  • The 20-hour pre-departure seminar component (essentially consisting of video/PowerPoint presentation and discussion) of the course will be conducted by faculty leader, Dr. Julian Gaspar, Executive Director of Mays Center for International Business Studies & Clinical Professor of Finance, and will be offered during October-November 2011 at a time and place in Wehner TBA after selecting and meeting with program participants.
  • The trip to India will take place from January 3-16, 2012.
  • A 10-page research/reflection paper related to an issue related to India's business environment should be submitted to Dr. Gaspar by April 13, 2012. Your PowerPoint presentation will be scheduled soon after that.
